Frequently Asked Questions
How long
have you been in business?
Changing Spaces was founded in March
of 2001.
What makes you different from traditional interior
decorators?
The Changing Spaces concept is quite different from traditional
interior design practice. We do not try to sell you anything. The
basic idea is that we come into your space and work with the things
that you already own. When we do recommend new purchases we provide
you with a resource list and specifications regarding color, size,
fabric, etc.,
which is part of the written design plan at the end of the consultation.

I have a friend who used a one-day decorator and when
she came home she moved everything back because she hated it.
How do I know that I won't have the same experience?
The key to understanding the differences between one-day decorating
businesses is found in the basic working style. Changing
Spaces is committed to working with the client to ‘renew'
their spaces, creating a beautiful home that reflects who they
are and what they really like. Clearly you won't have the same
kind of experience that your friend had because you will be working with us.
We strongly feel that asking the client to leave while we re-decorate
their space would detract considerably from the final product.
After all--the house is about you and what you love—not about us.
That is not to say that we won't have opinions regarding the choice
of what to use in the re-decoration, but ultimately the decision
should be yours.

I'm embarrassed to use a design professional because
I'm afraid that they will judge me.
We are not in the judging business!! There is not a person on
the planet with perfect taste because the very idea is ludicrous.
We understand budget constraints, emotional attachments, chaotic
schedules and frenzied lives. We are also aware of the various
space, design and aesthetic needs that often change as our lifestyle
and circumstances change. One of the main reasons we do this work
is because it is not only rewarding—but also fun.

I have always thought that interior designers were
expensive and that only wealthy people use them.
We charge a flat fee based on the number of room(s) you choose
to re-decorate so the client always knows exactly what the cost
will be upfront. The fee is based on the size of the room and has
nothing to do with the amount of time it takes us to complete the
job.

Will my room be completed when you leave?
We will discuss and suggest many things during the course of the
consultation—only some can be accomplished immediately. In most
cases we will rearrange furniture, arrange accessories and hang
pictures. Often the room will look dramatically different, but
rarely will it be totally finished. If there are large pieces of
furniture that need to be moved we will suggest their placement
in the written design plan. Recommendations for window treatments,
lighting, paint color and fabric or new furniture choices are provided
during the consultation and also written in the design plan in
order for you to meet your long term decorating goals. We always
leave you with a resource list to help you with any future purchases.

Will you shop for furniture or anything else suggested
in your design plans?
Yes, absolutely. If you don't have the time we provide shopping
at a rate of $75.00 with or without the client.
